The Backstreet Cultural Museum – This awesome cultural museum officially opened its doors in 1999. It offers a very diverse education revolving around the New Orleans’ African American heritage. You will find numerous collections; such as costumes, photographs, and other memorabilia pertinent to the African American culture of New Orleans. You’ll also find an impressive variety of exhibits displaying interesting points in history such as jazz funerals, social aid, and the Mardi Gras Indians. Mardi Gras Riverfront World – This is a fun-filled day long tour taking you to see all the awesome Mardi Gras floats, and where they’re created. Ogden Museum of Southern Arts – The Ogden Museum of Southern Arts has some wonderful art exhibits and collections revolving around New Orleans, including Hurricane Katrina. While the museum is open year round, their exhibits do change periodically. You can view their older exhibits online. A nice feature at this location is that after the museum closes, they have live music and other more adult-oriented events. Cajun Encounters Cajun Encounters is another tour company. They offer you three different types of tours, plus a package deal. You can choose from tours of Plantations, Swamps, or a City tour. The Audubon Institute – There are five awesome attractions rolled into one here. The Zoo, the Aquarium, the Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, IMAX and Audubon Park. Louisiana’s Children’s Museum – This is definitely a must do with your little ones during inclement weather. Open year round, the museum has seasonal attractions and offers many activities; such as Toddler Hour, Reading Programs, Sensory Night, and Art Trek. The museum even has a family pajama night! Preservation Hall – Preservation Hall is a small jazz club that has three shows a night. The key word here is small. Even though the club is small, it gives a big opportunity for a great time. If you’re wondering how small Preservation Hall is here’s a hint. If you’d like a drink while you enjoy the show, you need to buy it across the street. French Quarter Phantoms Ghost Tours – These spooky tours are year round, and offer you a variety of places to haunt. Fritzels European Jazz Club – Fritzels European Jazz Club is another popular place to listen to some awesome jazz music. You can find some delicious food to your liking at Fritzels.
